The pharmaceutical cluster of Russia’s Northern Capital is set to receive a powerful development boost. Pharmasyntez-Nord, a resident of the St. Petersburg Special Economic Zone (SEZ), has announced the construction of the third stage of its research and production complex. The investment volume for the project will exceed 25 billion rubles, with the launch of new capacities scheduled for 2030.

Project Details

Plans for the large-scale expansion were announced during a working meeting between the Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg, Kirill Polyakov, and the company’s management. The new production complex will be located at the “Novoorlovskaya” site of the SEZ.

Currently, the project is in the design phase. City authorities and the investor discussed state support measures necessary for the implementation of such a capital-intensive initiative, which will become a crucial link in ensuring the region’s drug security.

Focus on Critical Therapies

Expanding capacities will significantly increase the output of life-saving medicines. According to the Vice-Governor, the company will focus on the development and production of medications for treating the most socially significant diseases:

  • Oncology;
  • Autoimmune diseases;
  • Endocrine disorders;
  • Infectious diseases;
  • Cardiovascular diseases.

“The development of such production facilities is an important contribution to strengthening St. Petersburg’s status as one of the key centers of the medical and biotechnological industry.”

— Kirill Polyakov, Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg

Strategic Importance

The city administration emphasizes that the development of the pharmaceutical cluster is a strategic direction for St. Petersburg’s economy. The implementation of the project will create new high-tech jobs for qualified specialists and guarantee an increase in tax revenues for budgets at all levels once the enterprise reaches its design capacity.
