Russian Pharmacy Market 2025: Infrastructure Contraction Amid Average Check Growth

By the end of 2025, the Russian pharmacy retail market underwent a structural transformation. According to data from the analytical company RNC Pharma, the reduction in the total number of outlets and changes in regional distribution were accompanied by a significant increase in consumer spending.

Consumer Economics and Average Check

In 2025, financial performance indicators for pharmacies showed a steady positive trend.

  • Total Average Check: The average annual indicator for the entire pharmacy assortment (including medications and parapharmaceuticals) amounted to 785 RUB, which is 11% higher than the 2024 result.
  • Medicines (LP): The average check in this category increased by 15.1%, reaching 634.9 RUB.
  • Parapharmaceuticals: In contrast to the medicine segment, this category saw a decrease of 3.7% to 150.1 RUB.

Individual consumer spending on medicines also grew. By the end of 2025, a single resident of Russia spent an average of 12.96 thousand RUB on medicines (in retail prices including VAT), compared to 10.86 thousand RUB in 2024. Thus, the growth dynamics of per capita medicine consumption amounted to +19.3%. Spending on parapharmaceutical products amounted to 3.06 thousand RUB per person.

Infrastructure Changes and Pharmacy Networks

Parallel to the increase in monetary turnover (the medicine market grew by 15.8% in rubles), a reduction in the number of physical pharmacies was recorded:

  • As of the end of November 2025, there were an average of 84.05 thousand institutions operating in Russia, which is 1.49 thousand outlets fewer than in November 2024.
  • The decrease in the total number of pharmacies amounted to -1.74%.
  • The process of market concentration in the hands of major players continues: the share of pharmacy networks reached 88.2% of the total number of outlets by the end of November 2025 (compared to 86.5% in November 2024).
  • The growth in the presence of the network segment amounted to +1.7 percentage points.
  • Non-network retail accounted for only 11.8% of institutions by the end of the reporting period.

Regional Distribution

In 2025, a change in the leader by number of pharmacy outlets occurred. Moscow Region overtook Moscow to take first place in the Russian Federation by this indicator:

  • In the Moscow Region, there were 5.27 thousand pharmacies as of November 2025.
  • In Moscow, this figure stood at 5.23 thousand institutions.

Notably, Moscow showed the most massive infrastructure contraction — the number of pharmacies in the city decreased by 485 units over the year.
