FERON LLC to Build an Interferon Production Complex in Lobnya for 1.6 Billion Rubles

The Russian pharmaceutical company FERON has begun construction of a new production and warehouse complex in the urban district of Lobnya (Moscow Region). The expansion of existing capacities will significantly increase the output of antiviral drugs and active pharmaceutical ingredients.

Production Capacities and Investments

According to the Main Directorate of State Construction Supervision of the Moscow Region, initial cycle works are currently underway at the construction site. Investments in the project are estimated at 1.6 billion rubles.

In the new building, with a total area exceeding 6,000 square meters, the company plans to establish large-scale production of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) Interferon. Interferon is a protein molecule that provides antiviral immunity to the body. Under natural conditions, human cells produce this protein in response to the impact of viruses, pathogenic bacteria, or their metabolic products.

Medical Significance

Drugs based on interferon have a broad spectrum of action and are used in the therapy of several severe and widespread nosologies. These include:

• Seasonal acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) and influenza;
• Viral hepatitis;
• Herpesvirus and papillomavirus infections;
• Oncological diseases;
• Multiple sclerosis.

Economic Impact and Human Resources Potential

Construction works are scheduled to be fully completed by the summer of 2027. The commissioning of the new pharmaceutical complex will provide the municipality with approximately 150 high-tech jobs.

The development of this project is fully aligned with the region’s economic strategy. As the Governor of the Moscow Region, Andrey Vorobyov, previously noted, the Moscow Region is placing a special emphasis on the development of the biotechnology sector and the specialized training of qualified professionals in partnership with leading scientific centers (in particular, MIPT).
